Proficy Historian

Product Overview

High-speed industrial time-series and A&E data historian

GE Vernova describes Proficy Historian as “best-in-class historian software that collects industrial operations time-series and A&E data at very high speed, stores it efficiently and securely in the cloud or on-prem, distributes it, and allows for fast retrieval and analysis.” The product is part of the Proficy family β€” now operating under the Velotic brand since March 2026. Allied Solutions Global is the authorised partner that handles sizing, deployment and ongoing support.

Compression efficiency that changes the storage budget

The compression claim that matters for capacity planning β€” verbatim from GE Vernova: “With just 1% compression enabled, Historian is approximately 2x more efficient than a leading competitor and 30x more efficient than relational databases.” If your team is currently writing historian-like data into MS SQL or Postgres, Proficy Historian stores the same data in roughly 1/30th of the disk footprint. That changes the cost equation for multi-year retention.

Ingest speed at industrial scale

  • Cloud ingest rate: 150,000 values per second per interface (cloud version).
  • AWS benchmark: documented 1 billion sample/minute ingestion rate on AWS.
  • Store-and-forward: the cloud version protects against data loss if the cloud or network is unavailable β€” every sample is buffered locally and forwarded when connectivity returns.
  • Zero-downtime upgrades: a supported pattern for high-availability deployments.

Deployment options to match your IT model

  • On-premises β€” runs in your own data centre or directly on the plant network.
  • Cloud SaaS β€” Proficy Historian for Cloud, fully managed, “highly available and scalable” and “always current with 0 downtime.”
  • Customer-managed cloud β€” deployable in your own AWS / Azure / GCP virtual private cloud (VPC).

Tools your engineers already use

The Excel Add-In lets engineers interact with Historian configuration data directly from Excel β€” useful when reporting workflows are spreadsheet-driven, which describes the majority of plants we work with. For longer-form reporting, Historian feeds Proficy Operations Hub dashboards and downstream BI tools.

Where Proficy Historian fits in the wider Proficy stack

Historian sits at the data layer of the Proficy family. iFIX and CIMPLICITY historise data into it at full resolution. Proficy Plant Applications reads from it for MES KPIs and OEE. Proficy CSense uses it as the training set for AI/ML models. Operations Hub renders dashboards across all of it.

How Allied Solutions Global delivers it

We size Historian to your tag count, retention policy and HA requirements; deploy on-prem, SaaS or in your VPC; and handle integration with your existing SCADA, MES and reporting tools. Our team also runs licensing reviews when you outgrow your existing tier.

FAQ

Q: Is Proficy Historian still GE Vernova, or is it Velotic?
A: Proficy Historian transitioned to the Velotic brand on 17 March 2026 along with the rest of the Proficy family. Product name, version path and existing licences continue. Full transition context here.

Q: Can Historian collect from non-GE SCADA systems?
A: Yes. Historian collects from a wide range of industrial protocols and platforms via OPC, OPC UA, custom collectors and integration APIs β€” it is regularly deployed alongside AVEVA, Siemens, Rockwell and bespoke systems.

Q: What is the difference between Historian and a generic database?
A: Beyond the ~30x compression efficiency, Historian is engineered for high-frequency time-series writes, A&E event records, and continuous reads β€” a workload pattern that breaks generic relational databases at industrial volumes.
