What is OPC UA?

OPC UA (IEC 62541) is the successor to OPC Classic (DA/HDA/A&E). Unlike OPC DA, which relies on Microsoft DCOM and is limited to Windows, OPC UA is platform-independent, firewall-friendly, and includes built-in security with certificate-based authentication and encrypted transport. OPC UA is the standard recommended by the OPC Foundation for all new industrial connectivity deployments.

The OPC UA Client driver for KEPServerEX connects to third-party OPC UA servers and aggregates their data into a single KEPServerEX namespace. This enables a unified view of data across multiple OPC UA sources — consolidating plant-wide information into one connectivity platform for your SCADA, historian, or MES.

OPC UA + MQTT: Bridging OT and IT

KEPServerEX’s IoT Gateway plug-in publishes data from any connected device as MQTT messages (including Sparkplug B) and exposes REST endpoints.
